Adobe home insurance in New Mexico - unique challenges

Sharing some lessons from insuring a traditional adobe home in Santa Fe. These older construction types have special issues:

1) Make sure your policy covers adobe repairs, not just standard construction. 2) Water damage is the big one - adobe melts basically. 3) Get a policy that covers to current code which means proper adobe restoration. 4) Document the historical value if applicable. Our insurer tried to pay for stucco repairs on a traditional adobe wall until we pushed back.
