Cyber insurance claim after our small business got hacked
Our small business got hit with ransomware 2 months ago. Locked out of everything - customer data, accounting, inventory system. Hackers wanted $50,000 in bitcoin.
Thank god we had cyber insurance. Heres what they covered: forensic investigation ($12,000), data recovery ($8,000), customer notification costs ($3,500), and business interruption for the 2 weeks we were basically shut down ($15,000).
We did NOT pay the ransom. Our cyber insurance carrier connected us with a forensic team that recovered most of our data from backups. Total claim was around $40,000.
If you have a small business and dont have cyber insurance, please get it. The premium is way less than what this would have cost us without coverage.
