Water DamagePosted by anxiousresident589

Dishwasher leaked behind cabinets for months - insurer says its "gradual damage" and not covered. Is there any path forward?

Pulled out our dishwasher last weekend because the kitchen smelled weird, and the entire wall behind it was soaked. The supply line had been dripping slowly behind the cabinets probably since we moved in 8 months ago. There is mold along the baseboards, the drywall is shot, and the subfloor under that section is spongy.

Adjuster came out, took photos, and called me yesterday. He said because the leak was "gradual" and not "sudden and accidental," its excluded under our policy. He pointed to language about long-term seepage. The total damage estimate is around $14,000 between mold remediation, drywall, cabinet replacement, and flooring.

Here is what bugs me. There was no way for us to see this leak. It was behind cabinets, behind a dishwasher, hidden from view. Doesnt the "hidden seepage" clause some policies have apply here? Im going to call my agent tomorrow but i wanted to see if anyone has fought this kind of denial and won.
