Finally got my denied dental claim paid after 5 months

Needed a crown on a cracked tooth. Dentist submitted the claim with xrays. Denied for "not medically necessary." A CRACKED TOOTH is not medically necessary?!

Appeal #1 denied. Appeal #2 denied with a different reason (said I hadnt met the "waiting period" even though Id had the plan for 2 years).

Filed a complaint with my state insurance department. Got a call from the insurance company within 10 days. Claim was approved and paid in full. The state complaint was what did it.

Takeaway: state insurance department complaints actually work. Companies dont want regulators looking at their denials.
