Flash flood in Kansas City area - fought and won

The flash flooding in KC last summer caught us off guard. Water came into the basement fast. Initially claim was denied as "flood" but I argued it was sudden water intrusion from overwhelmed drainage, not rising water.

Key in Missouri: read your policy language carefully. Mine covered "sudden and accidental discharge of water" which is different from flood. Got a plumber to document that water came through a basement window, not up from the ground. Claim approved for $18k.
