Got $23,000 more on my claim by getting a second opinion from a contractor

Insurance adjuster estimated $11,000 for storm damage repairs. Seemed low but I didnt know what to compare it to.

Got three contractor estimates. All came in between $30,000 and $36,000. The insurance adjuster had missed damage to the soffit, fascia, and two windows. Also used prices from like 5 years ago.

Submitted the contractor estimates with photos of the missed damage. Adjuster came back out, found the additional damage, and revised the estimate to $34,000.

If your insurance estimate seems low, get your own estimates. Adjusters miss things. It doesnt mean theyre being dishonest - they might have limited time or access. But always verify.
