Got my earthquake claim paid in California - heres how

I know earthquake claims in CA have a reputation for being difficult but I actually had a decent experience after the Ferndale quakes last year. Wanted to share what helped.

I have CEA coverage through my regular insurer. Key things: 1) hired a structural engineer for $800 to document foundation cracks, 2) kept detailed timeline of when damage appeared, 3) got multiple contractor estimates.

The 15% deductible still hurt but at least they paid. Total claim was around $45k on a $300k policy.
