Hospital visit covered but doctor visit same day is denied??

Went to the ER, saw a doctor there, got treated and released. Insurance covered the hospital portion but denied the doctors charges saying it was out of network.

How was i supposed to know the ER doctor wasnt in network? I didnt exactly have time to check.
