Insurance denied my ADHD medication - 2 months into a prior auth nightmare

I have been on the same ADHD medication for 4 years. It works, my psychiatrist manages it, my life is functional. Then my employer switched insurance plans in January and suddenly my medication requires prior authorization.

My psychiatrist submitted the PA. Denied - "step therapy required," meaning they want me to try two cheaper medications first. The problem is I already tried those exact medications years ago before settling on what works. I have records. My doctor submitted those records. Still denied.

We're on appeal number two now. In the meantime I'm paying $340/month out of pocket to not fall apart. I work full time, I have two kids, I really cannot afford this physically or financially. Has anyone actually won a step therapy appeal? Im starting to feel like this system is designed to just exhaust you into giving up.
