South Carolina Wind and Hail Underwriting Association - help

Got a notice that my insurer is non-renewing wind coverage and I need to get it through the SC Wind Pool. Never dealt with this before.

How does the South Carolina wind pool work? Is it more expensive? Do I still keep my regular homeowners or does this replace it? The letter was confusing.
