Top mistakes people make when filing auto claims

Work at a body shop and see these mistakes constantly:

1. Giving a recorded statement to the OTHER drivers insurance without thinking it through. You dont have to and anything you say can be used to reduce your payout.
2. Not getting a police report. Even for minor accidents, get the report. It matters.
3. Accepting the first repair estimate without questioning it. Insurance estimators often miss hidden damage.
4. Signing a direction to pay before reading it. Some shops lock you in and then you cant move your car.
5. Not documenting injuries immediately. If you feel ANY pain after an accident, go to urgent care. Gaps in treatment look bad for your claim.

And the biggest one: admitting fault at the scene. Even if you think its your fault, let the insurance companies figure it out. Say as little as possible.
