Finally settled my roof claim after 8 months - here's what actually worked

I've been posting here a few times about my hail damage claim that kept getting denied and lowballed. Wanted to come back and share what finally worked because this community helped me so much when i was frustrated.

Quick background: April storm last year did significant hail damage to my roof. Insurance sent an adjuster who said most of it was "wear and tear" and offered $3,200. A contractor i trusted said it needed full replacement at around $18,000. That gap is what started this whole nightmare.

What turned it around: i hired a public adjuster. I know a lot of people hesitate because of the cost but i genuinely couldn't have navigated this alone. They filed an internal appeal with the insurer, brought in an independent inspector, and documented every single piece of damage with photos and measurements. Three months later the insurer agreed to a $14,800 settlement.

Not full replacement cost but i'll take it over $3,200. Document everything from day one, don't accept the first offer, and don't be afraid to appeal. You have more power than they want you to think.
