Adjuster said my roof damage is "pre-existing" but I bought the house 8 months ago with a clear inspection
We had a big hailstorm roll through our area last month. Pretty much everyone on my street filed roof claims. My neighbor across the street already got approved for a full replacement - she's getting the work done next week.
The insurance adjuster came to my house, walked the roof for maybe 20 minutes, then came down and told me they're denying the hail damage claim because the damage is "pre-existing." He said the dents and bruising looked "aged" and predated the storm.
Here's the thing - I bought this house 8 months ago. I have a home inspection report that specifically says the roof was in good condition with no visible damage, estimated 5-7 years of remaining life. The storm happened 8 months after I moved in. How is any of it pre-existing if the inspection cleared it? I feel like they're just denying it because my neighbor was an easier case somehow.
The denial letter says I can "request a re-inspection" but I don't know if that's actually useful or just a runaround. Should I get my own inspector out there? What does this process actually look like?
