How do I document damage properly for a claim?

A pipe burst in our basement last night and theres about 2 inches of standing water. Never dealt with anything like this before.

Before I start cleaning up, what should I document? Photos? Videos? Serial numbers of damaged stuff? I want to make sure I dont mess up the claim by cleaning up too soon or not documenting enough.
