Insurance totaled my car and valued it at $4,200 - the exact same car is selling for $9,500 near me
My 2017 Hyundai Elantra with 61,000 miles got totaled last week. No major mechanical issues, clean interior, new brakes in September. The adjuster just sent the total loss valuation and it came in at $4,200.
I went on CarGurus and found four comparable 2017 Elantra SE models within 75 miles - same trim, similar mileage. They're listed between $8,900 and $10,200. There's one 15 miles from me at $9,500. I also checked KBB and it says fair market range for my trim and mileage is $7,100 to $8,600 private party, $8,200 to $9,800 dealer retail.
The valuation report they sent references three "comparable" vehicles, two of which are in states I've never heard of being near me and have mileage over 95,000. That is not comparable.
This is through my own comprehensive coverage (deer strike). I've never done this before - how do I push back? I feel like they basically just made up a number.
