Insurer's estimate is half of what every contractor is quoting - is this normal?
Had a major hail storm come through in March. Obvious damage all over the roof - dented vents, cracked shingles, gutters bent up. Filed a claim, adjuster came out, and they're offering $5,400 for what they're calling a "partial repair." Every roofing contractor I've called has quoted me between $9,500 and $12,000 for a full replacement.
My roof is 12 years old. The adjuster said they're accounting for depreciation and that they can only cover the sections that were damaged. But all three contractors I've talked to said you really cant do a partial replacement on a roof that age - new shingles wont match and you'll have water intrusion issues at the seams within a few years.
Is a $5k vs $10k+ gap normal? Do I just accept the insurer's number or is there actually a way to push back here? I don't want to start a project and then be stuck paying $5k out of pocket because I didn't fight hard enough upfront.
