Total LossPosted by patient_renter_128

Progressive offered me $11,400 ACV on my totaled 2019 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. Comparable trucks in my area are listing at $24-28k. Here's how i got them to $23,600.

Got rear ended at a red light in late March by someone going maybe 35 mph. I was at a complete stop. Their fault, no question, their carrier (Progressive) accepted liability the same week. My truck was a 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road, 4WD, double cab, manual transmission, 71,400 miles, single owner, full service records, never wrecked, with about $3,200 in factory accessories (bed cover, hitch, all weather mats package, running boards).

Frame damage. Total loss declared 8 days after the accident. The first ACV offer from Progressive's CCC valuation report came in at $11,400. Eleven thousand four hundred dollars. I almost laughed when i opened the email. KBB private party on my truck with the actual mileage and options was $24,800. Two identical trucks listed at dealerships within 50 miles of me were $26,995 and $28,500. The CCC report had used "comparable" vehicles that were 2WD automatics with 110k miles and no off road package.

I want to write this up because i spent weeks doing the wrong things before i figured out what actually works. Stuff i learned: (1) the CCC report is negotiable, every line of it. Each comparable they used can be challenged. (2) you have to submit comps yourself in a specific format. Screenshot listings, save the URLs, capture the VIN, document the exact options. (3) condition adjustments are where they hide huge dollar amounts. Mine had a "typical condition" adjustment that knocked off $2,800 and there was zero basis for it given my service records. (4) factory accessories almost always require a separate line item submission with receipts. They never proactively include them. (5) sales tax and title fees are owed on top of ACV in most states and they will not tell you that unless you ask.

Final number landed at $23,600 plus $1,650 in sales tax and fees. Took 5 weeks and four rounds of comps. They threatened appraisal clause at one point which i welcomed and they backed off. If you are sitting on a lowball total loss right now i promise it is worth the fight. Happy to share my comp submission template if anyone wants it.
