Roof claim denied - adjuster says hail damage is "wear and tear". My contractor says otherwise.
Filed a claim with Travelers Insurance after a bad hailstorm in March. We had 2 inch hail, there's a verifiable weather report, and my neighbor two houses down already got his roof replaced under his claim with a different insurer. My adjuster came out, spent about 20 minutes up there, and concluded the damage is "wear and tear and normal aging" rather than storm-related.
My roofing contractor walked the roof with me afterward and showed me fresh dents in the aluminum flashing, damaged ridge caps with obvious impact marks, and shingles with bruising patterns that are clearly not from age. He's been doing roofing for 22 years and says he's never seen wear and tear look like this. He documented everything with photos.
I requested a re-inspection and they're sending the same adjuster. Do I have any recourse if he reaches the same conclusion again? My policy has a provision for an appraisal process - does anyone have experience with that? Should I just hire a public adjuster at this point?
